Job Description

We are seeking a Backend Engineer with strong Ruby on Rails experience to join our engineering team. This role will focus on building and maintaining our backend infrastructure while supporting our mobile development (React Native) initiatives through robust CI/CD practices.

This role anticipates approximately 10% travel.

What You’ll Do:
• Build, iterate, & scale a Ruby on Rails backend service that powers our mobile applications
• Own and evolve our CI/CD pipelines across backend and mobile platforms
• Be a technical resource for other teams utilizing our mobile platformKeep our docs up-to-date and useful—from platform features to API specs to deployment processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve development workflows and processes
• Monitor and optimize system performance and reliability
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions
What We’re Looking For:
• 5+ years of experience in an agile software development environment, with strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails; experience with React Native is a plus
• Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for a backend system and/or mobile applications serving a large user base
• Experience with API design patterns and versioningFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
• Familiarity supporting and mentoring other teams in CI/CD best practices
• Track record of successfully deprecating legacy systemsClear communicator who writes docs that that developers actually want to read
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Past experience owning critical software delivery platforms
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous monitoring tools
• Experience with Git workflows and feature branch development practices
• Nice to have: experience working with federal/state/local government. Department of Veterans Affairs experience preferred.

$100,000 - $153,000 a year
Compensation for this role is $100,000 to $153,000 Annual Salary + Benefits + Growth Potential
Placement within this range will be based on the competency level of the candidate. An offer will be made atone of the following tiers:

Tier 1: $100,000— Meets minimum qualification/experience requirements. Beyond onboarding, will need additional guidance and training to perform key responsibilities of the role.

Tier 2: $127,000— Experienced and fully-competent. Beyond onboarding, can independently perform key responsibilities of the role.

Tier 3: $157,000— Highly-experienced and can perform all responsibilities of the role at a higher level than expected once onboarding is completed.

To honor our company-wide equitable pay system, the posted salary range and corresponding tier salaries are non-negotiable.
