Hi there!
I’m looking for someone to help me create a dynamic table of contents for WordPress posts and pages. I want it to automatically generate links to all the H2 headers in the article, display on the left-hand side of the screen, and scroll with the user (sticky behavior). It should also be responsive, so it hides on mobile devices to avoid clutter.
Here are some additional details about what I’m envisioning:
The TOC should have a clean and professional look, outlined in a black border with “Table of Contents” clearly labeled at the top.
The links should smoothly scroll to the corresponding section of the page when clicked.
It needs to dynamically generate based on the headers in the content, so I don’t have to manually create the links every time.
I’d like the TOC to work with custom CSS and possibly JavaScript, but I'm not sure what would be best for the speed of the website. I'm also hoping for it to be implemented directly into the post/page templates without relying on plugins so that I may toggle it on or off as needed.
I’m not a developer, so I’m not fully sure how complex this is or what the best approach might be. I’m open to your suggestions and insights to make this work :)
Since I don’t have the technical expertise to estimate the scope of the work, I’m unsure about the budget. Feel free to let me know what you think is reasonable for a project like this! I’d appreciate a breakdown of the time and effort it might require so I may save up the necessary funds.
