Position: System Administrator

Reports to: Director of IT

Background:

IDEA’s mission is to assume a leadership position in facilitating the exchange of complete, high-quality, commercial grade transactional and eCommerce content, which includes serving as the electrical industry’s standards body by setting, facilitating, and monitoring data standards.

IDEA is comprised of two for-profit businesses and is jointly owned by two non-profit Associations, NAED and NEMA:

· IDEA Connector – an industry product information platform which receives, validates, stores, secures, and syndicates both transactional and eCommerce enhanced data/product content

· IDEA Exchange – a Value-Added Network (VAN) which enables electronic data to be passed between companies in a competitive, cost-efficient manner

Key Accountabilities:

IDEA is seeking a skilled System Administrator to manage and support our IT infrastructure across Linux and Windows environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining servers, networking, security, and cloud services while ensuring optimal system performance and security compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
• Server Administration: Manage, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows servers, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Cloud Management: Deploy, manage, and optimize AWS services, including EC2 instances, Route 53, IAM, and S3 storage.
• Networking & Security: Configure and manage VPNs, firewalls, and other network security measures to ensure secure data transmission.
• Office 365, Microsoft Entra Administration: Administer and support Office 365 & Microsoft Entra services, including user management, email configurations, and security settings.
• System Monitoring & Maintenance: Perform proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for system performance and security.
• Backup & Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement backup strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Automation & Scripting: Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell) to automate system tasks and improve efficiency.
• User Support: Provide Level 2/3 support for IT-related issues, ensuring timely resolution for end-users.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain system documentation, security policies, and compliance standards.

Preferred Education and Experience:
• 3+ years of experience in system administration, managing both Linux and Windows environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field
• Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS) and Windows Server administration
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, Route 53, IAM, S3, VPC, etc.)
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, including VPNs, firewalls, and DNS
• Hands-on experience with Office 365 & Microsoft Entra administration
• Knowledge of scripting and automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python preferred)
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus) and security best practices
• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Linux+ (preferred)

Additional Requirements:
• Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication as well as analytical, research, documentation, and problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to IT infrastructure management
• Operates well independently and in team settings often under minimal supervision
• Thrive in complex, often ambiguous, and fast paced environments
• Occasional overnight business travel may be required
• Must be a U.S. citizen or Perm US Resident

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
