Job Description

Position Overview:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Test Engineer - Junior plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and functionality of software applications. This position supports the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), contributing to the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of testing processes. Depending on experience, the QA Test Engineer may take on responsibilities ranging from test execution and defect tracking to test planning, automation, and mentoring.

Key Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities (All Levels):
• Analyze and interpret functional and non-functional business and technical requirements.
• Review user stories to assess testing impact and ensure traceability between requirements and test cases.
• Design and document comprehensive positive and negative test cases.
• Participate in retrospectives and lessons learned to improve testing processes.
• Collaborate across state agencies and stakeholders to ensure cohesive and effective testing efforts.

Responsibilities:

Test Execution Support:
• Execute manual test cases for software applications, documenting results and defects in alignment with project requirements.
• Assist in identifying, logging, and tracking defects using tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.

Test Case Development:
• Collaborate with senior QA staff to draft positive and negative test cases based on user stories and functional requirements.

Automation:
• Support the development and execution of basic automation test scripts for regression testing (e.g., Selenium, Cypress).

Compliance & Documentation:
• Follow defect management protocols and maintain traceability between test cases and requirements.
• Contribute to test scenario artifacts during the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Collaboration:
• Work with cross-functional teams, including developers and business analysts, to validate fixes and ensure alignment with acceptance criteria.

Qualifications

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science , Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 0–3 years of experience in software testing, preferably in healthcare or government IT systems (e.g., Medicaid, HIE).
• Strong understanding of SDLC and STLC and QA methodologies
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with test management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr).
• Working toward certifications such as ISTQB Foundation Level or ASTQB.

Preferred:
• Experience with test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, JUnit, TestNG).
• Familiarity with defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla).
• QA certifications (ISTQB, ASTQB, AST).
• Experience working in government or large-scale enterprise environments.
• Exposure to healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) or federal compliance frameworks (MITA, CMS).
• Basic SQL querying skills for data validation.

• Maternity, Paternity, and Adoption Leave:  Rios Partners celebrates employees’ choice to become parents. We are also aware that pregnancy and caring for an infant or a newly adopted child may cause additional life complexities.
