Compensation: $60–$120/hour (DOE) | Contract-Based with Potential for Full-Time
About the Role
A fast-moving AI-driven platform is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and optimize a scalable backend infrastructure. The role involves developing APIs, handling real-time data processing, and integrating with Google Cloud services such as Gemini, Google Vision, and Text-to-Speech Advanced.
This position requires expertise in both Node.js and Python—Node.js for backend API development, WebSockets, and real-time communication, and Python for AI model fine-tuning and advanced data processing.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Firebase, PostgreSQL, WebSockets, and cloud deployment, as well as knowledge of mobile application deployment for the App Store and Google Play.
Responsibilities
• Develop and optimize scalable APIs to integrate with Google Cloud services
• Build and maintain backend systems using Node.js (Express, Fastify, or Nest.js)
• Implement real-time communication using WebSockets (Socket.io) or Firebase Realtime Database
• Fine-tune AI models and process large datasets using Python
• Manage databases, including PostgreSQL for structured data and Firestore for real-time interactions
• Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure using Google Cloud Run, Firebase Functions, or AWS Lambda
• Handle authentication and security with Firebase Auth
• Oversee application deployment to the App Store and Google Play
• Optimize backend performance to ensure reliability and low-latency responses
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in backend development
• Strong proficiency in both Node.js & Python
• Experience with Firebase & Google Cloud services
• Expertise in database management (PostgreSQL, Firestore, or similar)
• Understanding of WebSockets & real-time communication
• Cloud deployment experience with Google Cloud, Firebase Functions, or AWS
• Experience deploying apps to the App Store & Google Play
• Must be based in Los Angeles (Remote, but occasional local meetings may be required)
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with AI-driven applications & model fine-tuning
• Familiarity with serverless architectures (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run)
• Knowledge of DevOps & CI/CD pipelines
• Previous work on SaaS, productivity tools, or investor platforms
